  1. d0179d1e7c8811e2b4b422000a1f903d_7Pringles Stix. Wednesday night, Hilary gave me a 100-calorie pack of Honey Butter-flavored Pringles Stix. If you’ve never tried these, do it. No, seriously–go buy some now and eat them. So amazing! Also, I’m completely ignoring the sodium content as I rave about this newfound snack. (I mean, they are still Pringles.)
  2. Twitter. On Wednesday, Twitter started reducing the size of tweets that include URLs. Links with http bring the character count to 118, while https links drop tweets to 117 characters. Read more about it at Mashable.
  3. Lip Gloss. I found a cool tutorial for DIY lip gloss made with Crystal Light. It reminds me of a lip gloss-making kit I had when I was a kid; I got to blend different scents in containers that looked almost exactly like those pictured in the tutorial. I really want to make some for Josh’s oldest niece and some of my cousins. I need a gift-giving holiday.
  4. a295effb-44d5-40cb-a2f6-91549d225d11_zps91c95361Whiskers. Earlier this week, I stumbled on this interesting article about why dogs (and other animals) have whiskers. So cool! (It reminds me of when Rascal would lose a whisker and I’d find it and spend forever trying to figure out what it was.)
  5. Beards. Turns out, guys’ beards can help improve their health and how well they age. Pretty cool, right? You can read all about the study that led to this discovery at AL.com. In the meantime, I’m going to encourage Josh to keep a bit of scruff. (Besides, it looks really good on him.)
  6. Social Media. I am loving this photo of social media in real life. Pure awesomeness. (I’m not even pretending that isn’t me.)
  7. Breaking Bad. Josh and I finished season 4 of Breaking Bad last week, and not being able to start the next season is driving me crazy! I need season 5 to be on Netflix, pronto.
  8. Bruschetta Burger. Remember how yesterday I mentioned how much I like bruschetta? Well, then this bruschetta burger came along, and, omg, I need it in my life. Now I need to figure out how to trick Josh into eating tomatoes.
  9. moviesThe Watch. Last weekend, Josh and I rented a couple of Redbox movies for our Valentine date night. We weren’t such huge fans of Pitch Perfect (gasp!), but we loved The Watch. It was hilarious! I totally recommend.
  10. Margarita Day. Happy Margarita Day! How are you celebrating? If you want recipe ideas for twists on the classic margarita, head over to my boozy pin board (you may need to scroll a bit for the margarita pins). Bottoms up!

  1. dishesSpring Cleaning. It’s almost that time of year. And, well, my apartment complex has decided that spring cleaning should happen in February (we actually have annual cleanliness inspections–lolwut). So I’ve created a temporary board for ideas on getting my home to look sparkly and new. (Since I already have these pins mixed in with other random tips and tricks, I’ll probably delete this board at the beginning of summer.)
  2. Vine. I’ve been thinking about possibly getting into the Vine app, but I’ve heard complaints that there is a major problem with porn in the app. Basically, the app allows users to upload 6-second videos to Vine, which can then be shared on Twitter and/or Facebook. Much like on Twitter or Instagram, you can explore trending topics and hashtags (which, I’m guessing, is where people are happening upon explicit material). Since Vine has received a lot of complaints about children finding pornographic clips, Vine has changed its age restriction to 17+. (I may still get try it because it seems I may need to know how to use it as a journalist.) Available in iTunes for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. FREE.
  3. We The People. The White House’s We the People site currently has  a petition for President Obama to start using more inclusive language in his speeches. Specifically, the petition asks that the president “Stop using the ‘wives, mothers, & daughters’ rhetorical frame that defines women by their relationships to other people.” The petition still needs about 97,000 signatures before March 15. Sign it today and spread the word!
  4. Tamagotchi. Nineties kids, rejoice. Tamagotchi is back (and probably needier than ever). Sure, you won’t get to carry your digital pet around on a cool key chain, but who cares? You get your favorite little guy back (and no pesky teacher can ban you from having it)! And this time, your mom won’t have to feed it every ten minutes. Just whip out your phone and feed your pet, then get back to work–just don’t let your boss know that’s not really an important email you were checking. Available in Google Play for Android. (iTunes version is in the works.) FREE.
  5. moviesPitch Perfect. Thanks to Redbox’s Valentine’s Day code from Redbox, I rented Pitch Perfect for free last night. We’re going to watch it tonight as part of our Valentine date. (There were supposed to be two Valentine codes–I was going to rent three movies in all–but one didn’t work; that was disappointing because I wanted to rent the latest Bourne movie for Josh to watch today while I’m not home.)
  6. The Watch. Another freebie from Redbox. Yesterday, Redbox posted a code on Facebook to celebrate reaching 5,000 fans. We’ll also be watching the Watch tonight. (We’re both stoked about this movie.)
  7. Gumbo. On Fat Tuesday, my sister shared this Chicken and Sausage Gumbo recipe on my Facebook wall and told me to make it for her. I haven’t made it yet, but, although it’s no longer Mardi Gras, I still really want to try it. Obviously there will be photos if I make it.
  8. Spiders. Have you seen this video of the bajillion spiders raining down in Brazil? Creeeeppppyyyy! According to the Washington Post article, this isn’t uncommon. Sometimes the wind picks up these spiders (they make big webs in the sky) and when it releases them, they look like they’re just falling from the sky. So… I think I won’t be going to Brazil, like, ever.
  9. beautyDove. Have you  seen this commercial from Dove? It was kind of surprising considering Dove’s Real Beauty campaign. This commercial (and the comments posted below it) presents a good discussion about a happiness tied to beauty products. I’d love to read your thoughts about this in the comments!
  10. Post-Valentine’s Day. Today is one of my favorite holidays: the day after Valentine’s Day. It’s a magical day when all the Valentine crafts and candies go on sale (like, 50-plus percent). It’s beautiful, really. I hope I don’t get to the store too late to rack up on some adorable Valentine sprinkles. And lots of chocolate. Because it offers lots of health benefits, and even if that list isn’t super long, it’s good enough for me.

Valentine’s surprises

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I got a nice Valentine surprise yesterday when I came home and found a card with my name on it waiting in the basket where Josh and I put our keys. I opened it and gushed about how sweet it was that he bought that for me.

But there was more.

jcardHe also bought me The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve talked about really wanting to watch it since before it even hit theaters (I loved, loved, loved the book). It was so nice because I wasn’t even expecting anything (we had agreed on no  gifts this year), but also because he listened (it’s not like I’ve raved about that movie–I’m pretty sure I only mentioned it a few times). It made me feel really special.

On a separate note, I adore that I’m not too old to get Valentines from my mom, who sent me a super sweet card and has reminded me that she loves me at least four times in the last four hours.

mcardI’m also loving the e-cards and status updates I’ve seen in the past 24 hours or so. Particularly these Valentines for journalists (and theseand these). Plus, TheSkimm has been sharing Law & Order Valentines on Facebook (though, not to be a prude, I think one in particular goes too far–you’ll know it when you see it). There are also these Supreme Court Valentines (via WSJ & Georgetown Law Weekly) that I chuckled at.

Celebrating this weekend (like Josh and I are)? You could totally make one of these treats for your hunny (or yourself).
